All Natural Mattress Materials
Natural Latex
Because latex is pure, natural and durable, natural rubber remains the key ingredient in manufacturing our Healthy Choice Organic mattresses. Natural rubber, before being processed into a mattress form, appears as a milky substance and is tapped from the Hevea Brasiliensis trees which grow in tropical climates.
Once the latex arrives in the United States it is processed in Connecticut using the Talalay method, which ensures that its natural properties are kept intact to produce the purest form of rubber possible, free of any chemical or toxins.
Natural rubber is breathable, dust-mite, mold spore and allergen resistant as well as extremely durable. Natural rubber is also extremely comfortable and supportive as well so you can count on many years of comfortable, supportive and healthy sleep.
Organic Cotton
Organic cotton is another key element in all of our mattresses. The natural softness and absorbency, combined with its strength make organic cotton a great asset to our mattresses. It allows for free circulation of air around your body, ensuring a very breathable sleep surface for a more comfortable night of sleep. Cotton is also hypoallergenic and discourages the growth of mold spores or allergens.
Healthy Choice Organic Mattress provides organic cotton that meets all certifications of the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS). We are pleased to feature Certified U.S. grown organic cotton in our product line and are proud to purchase the Organic Cotton we use in our mattresses from Deslee Textiles in South Carolina. We use only their 100% certified Organic Woven & Knitted Cotton (Product codes P077898 & P076331) depending on the application. Deslee is certified by the Global Organic Textile Standard or GOTS.
Organic Wool
Many people involved in outdoors activities wear wool socks during all four seasons, and the reason why is simple - Wool is the only material which keeps us cooler in the summer/spring and warmer in the winter/fall. Wool is also able to absorb moisture to a very high degree. This is why all Healthy Choice Mattresses contain wool inside of their covers. Combining organic wool with our organic cotton covers ensures that your sleep surface will always be cool and free of moisture.
We use both organic wool and premium "eco wool" in our mattresses and toppers. Since we use wool in so many products, you can be sure that we have searched far and wide to find not only the highest quality wool but also wool from sustainable sources.
What is our Premium Eco-Wool? Eco-Wool comes from the USA. Our wool is sourced only from small sheep farmers in the U.S. This year most of the wool is coming from small farmers along the West Coast. This is quite a political issue since most of the wool used in the U.S. is imported from New Zealand and Australia, greatly undermining our own local farms and our economy.
Sustainability Guidelines: All of the U.S. farmers who sign onto the Premium Eco-Wool program are educated in sustainable farming practices that are good for the people, the land and the animals. In turn, for following these sustainable principles the farmers are paid twice the amount they would receive in the general wool pool. It is a win, win situation for everyone and a great example of how what is good for the environment is also good for the economy.
