World Renowned Interior Designer Olga Adler says; "Good bye old mattress, hello good night sleep!" An out-of-shape mattress or one of poor quality can contribute to multitude of health issues: back pain, headaches, trouble sleeping and allergies. That's just the stuff that we all know about. But about even more serious conditions? What about all hidden (for now) health issues resulting from sleeping on a gigantic pile of dangerous chemicals?
The fact of the mattress is this: if it's not organic, it's causing harm. The most dangerous part of a standard mattress are the fire retardant chemicals that seep through your mattress cover and sheets and get absorbed by your skin while you sleep. They are:
- Boric Acid (also used as a pesticide!) - which is a reproductive and developmental toxin.
- AntAntimony - can cause heart and lung damage and is a suspected carcinogen.
- Decabromodiphenyl Oxide - causes hair and memory loss as well as heart, lung and kidney damage, and is also a suspected carcinogen.
Now, I am not saying you should throw your old mattress away tomorrow, but when you are ready to buy a new one, please consider an organic one. If you are designing your child's room, please consider organic. The good news is there are plenty of natural mattresses available on the market today and there is one that's going to be right for you.
When I was ready for a new mattress I tested many of them, this time paying attention to what the sales people were saying and then researching my options online and doing additional, deeper learning. My choice was a Rose model from Healthy Choice Organic Mattress - a mattress with no springs, made completely out of organic latex, organic cotton and organic wool. I have never slept better in my whole life.
